Steady Progression of China Nuclear Energy

According to “China Nuclear Energy Development Report 2024” released by China Nuclear Energy Association, in 2023, there are 5 newly approved nuclear power projects in China while construction of 5 new nuclear power units is embarked. Until now, China is currently constructing a total of 26 nuclear power units with a combined capacity of 30.3 gigawatts (GW). Two new nuclear power units are put into commercial operation in 2023, namely Unit 3 of Fangchenggang NPP Phase II and Shidaowan high-temperature gas-cooled reactor plant (HTR-PM) demonstration project.

Currently, the number of commercial nuclear power units in China has reached 55, with a planned installed capacity of 57.03 million kilowatts. There are 38 nuclear power units being under construction and approved, with a total installed capacity of 44.8 million kilowatts. The total installed capacity in operation, under construction and projects being approved has exceeded 100 million kilowatts. It has reached 433.371 billion kilowatt hours in 2023, ranking the second in the world. Compared with coal-fired power generation, electricity generated by nuclear power in China in 2023 is equivalent to saving 130 million tons of standard coal.

中国核能行业协会发布《中国核能发展报告2024》蓝皮书中指出,中国核电机组建设稳步推进。2023年中国新核准5个核电项目,新开工5台核电机组。截至目前,我国在建核电机组26台,总装机容量3030万千瓦。2023年中国新增商运核电机组2台,分别是防城港核电二期3号机组和石岛湾高温气冷堆示范工程。

目前中国商运核电机组数量达到55台,额定装机容量达到5703万千瓦,在建及已核准核电机组38台,总装机容量4480万千瓦,在运、在建及已核准总装机规模超过1亿千瓦。2023年达到4333.71亿千瓦时,位居全球第二。相较于燃煤发电,2023年中国核电发电相当于减少燃烧标准煤超过1.3亿吨。

Further Utilization of Nuclear Energy
核能综合利用进一步拓展

China is also putting in efforts for comprehensive utilization of nuclear energy. China is developing rapidly in area such as nuclear energy heating and nuclear energy industrial heating while the application of nuclear technology in medicine, industry, agriculture, security and other fields has entered a stage of rapid development.

As revealed in the blue book, the comprehensiveness on the utilization of nuclear energy is now advancing steadily. The heating demonstration projects of Haiyang, Qinshan, and Hongyanhe nuclear power plants have been put into operation. The heating area during the period of 2023-2024 has reached more than 13 million sq.m.. The third phase of SPIC’s “Warm Nuclear No. 1” nuclear energy heating project has achieved nationwide nuclear energy heating, that covers multiple prefecture-level cities, for the first time.

For industrial steam supply, the design parameter ranges for different types of nuclear reactors can cover various steam parameter levels required by the petrochemical industry and processing manufacturing industry.

Tianwan NPP's industrial nuclear steam supply project has been put into trial operation while Sanmen NPP’s industrial nuclear steam supply project in Zhejiang and other similar projects are also in consistent progress.

中国在核能综合利用的场景也在不断拓展。中国在核能供暖、核能工业供热等领域发展迅速,同时核技术在医学、工业、农业、安保等领域应用进入高速发展阶段。

《蓝皮书》显示,当前中国核能综合利用稳步推进,海阳、秦山、红沿河核电厂供暖示范项目陆续投产,2023-2024供暖季供热面积达到1300万平米以上。国家电投“暖核一号”三期核能供热项目实现全国首次跨地级市核能供热。

在工业供汽方面,不同类型的核反应堆设计参数范围可覆盖石化行业及加工制造业所需的各个蒸汽参数等级。田湾核电站核能工业供汽已经投入试运行,浙江三门核电厂核能工业供汽等项目也正在有序推进。
